It’s a habit that most people view as disgusting, but picking your nose and eating the bogies should be encouraged, according to one expert.
Dr Meg Lemon, a dermatologist in Denver claims that nose-picking is an important way for us to boost our immune systems.
The New York Times has published an excerpt from An Elegant Defense: The Extraordinary New Science of the Immune System by William Morrow, in which Dr Lemon gives her advice for a better immune system.
She said: “You should not only pick your nose, you should eat it.”

You should also eat food off the floor
And her stomach-churning advice doesn’t end there.
She added: “I tell people, when they drop food on the floor, please pick it up and eat it.”
While these tactics might sound disgusting to most of us, Dr Lemon claims that they give our immune systems ‘a job.’

She explained: “Our immune system needs a job.
“We evolved over millions of years to have our immune systems under constant assault. Now they don’t have anything to do.”
However, if you take Dr Lemon’s nose-picking advice, don’t be surprised if you get some pretty disgusted looks!
