But who is Stefan Sylvestre, the man who carried out the attack on the orders of her former boyfriend Daniel Lynch?

Who is Stefan Sylvestre?

Sylvestre was jailed in 2009 when he was 20 after throwing acid at the former model.

He carried out on the orders of her jealous former boyfriend Daniel Lynch, 39, who is serving a minimum of 16 years.

Sylvestre has tried to persuade prison bosses to cut short his sentence previously.

He became eligible for parole in 2015 but his application was blocked after he was deemed unfit for release.

A later parole application in 2018 was successful.

How long was Katie Piper's acid attacker sentenced to prison for?

Sylvestre was given a life sentence with a minimum of six years in 2009 for the attack and has so far spent nine years behind bars.

Katie Piper was left partially blind and with severe scars over her upper body.

In August 2018 the scandal-hit Parole Board approved his release after ignoring a plea in person by the telly presenter, one of this year’s Strictly hopefuls.

She has had 40 face ops since being attacked in 2009 by Stefan Sylvestre, 30, in Golders Green, North London.

Assaults using acid have more than doubled in England since 2012 – up from 183 five years ago to 504 in the year to March 2017.

There were more than 1,800 reports of acid used in murders, robberies and rapes since 2010.
