A grim photo is being shared on social media allegedly showing a turtle removed from a Brit woman’s vagina.
Doctors in Tenerife removed the dead reptile from the unnamed 26-year-old at the weekend after she complained of pain in her genital area.
An image, first published by a local newspaper, is now circulating of the suspected turtle alongside what appears to be a specimen bottle and bloodied blue latex glove.
There is nothing to confirm it is the turtle in question and officials are refusing to comment, but the image is being widely circulated in Spain.
Earlier reports suggested doctors pulled a tortoise from the woman’s vagina, but experts later confirmed the animal was in fact a freshwater turtle which can be bought from pet shops.

Further details about the woman at the centre of the bizarre mystery emerged today as police in Tenerife confirmed they were not continuing to investigate how the creature ended up where it did because she declined to give a statement.
Doctors at El Mojon, a medical centre operating as a small hospital above the holiday resort of Los Cristianos, made the shocking discovery after she went to A&E complaining of pain in her genital area which turned out to be an infection caused by the reptile.
It is not known if it was introduced into her vagina dead or alive.
Police were called to attend the hospital at 4.30pm on Saturday by a duty doctor concerned the woman could have been the victim of a sexual assault.

But she told officers she had no idea how the reptile ended up inside her – and insisted did not want to take the matter any further – leaving police with no option but to close their file on the extraordinary case.
The only information that has emerged is that the woman went out last Thursday night – two days before her emergency hospital visit – with a group of British men she met in an area called Las Veronicas in Los Cristianos prior to starting to feel unwell.
The hospital and local health service have declined to comment on the case for data protection reasons.
A police source confirmed: “We are not actively investigating this matter because the woman declined to give a statement.”
